Jeremiah 29:11-13

New International Version (NIV)

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. 12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

I am reading Stormie Omartian’s book The Power Of Praying For Your Adult Children Book Of Prayers.  As long as we live, no matter how old our children get, they are still our CHILDREN!  They are on our minds and in our hearts.  We are forever concerned about their well-being, their safety, happiness, success and their relationship with God.  As Stormie writes, “I believe these prayers will help any parent to have a positive impact on the lives of their adult children.  I pray that each prayer will help you to find greater freedom from worry and concern because you are tapping into the power of God, which is greater than anything you or they may be facing.”

At the end of my recipes I try and add some information either about an ingredient in the recipe or some other fact of interest.  From time to time I am going to include a prayer for our adult children.  These prayers have blessed me and I pray that you will find solace and blessing in them as well.

Mom makes delicious chicken salad.  We eat it on bread, piled on a bed of lettuce and sometimes stuffed in a fresh garden tomato.  Mom loves making this and we especially like serving it when we have friends for lunch.  Sometimes simple is the very best, and in the case of this chicken salad, simple works!

Can mix and match grapes, apples, and raisins to your liking.  This salad is good with or without them.

A Prayer for our adult children, from Stormie Omartian

 1 John 5:14-15

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.

LORD, I know you are the only perfect parent.  Thank You for loving my adult children as much as I do. Thank You for hearing my prayers for them. Give me faith to believe and patience to wait for the answers. Help me to not blame myself for anything that goes wrong in their lives.  Where I have made mistakes, I confess those to You and ask that You would redeem them all and release me from all guilt. Help me to forgive my adult children for anything they have done to hurt of disappoint me. Today I say, “For this child I have prayed, and You, Lord, have heard my prayers and granted my petition. (1 Samuel 1:27).  I give you all the praise and glory. In Jesus’ name I pray.
