The Weekend Roundup #1

Already the first week of January is nearly  a memory!  I always hear people say, “the older you get, the faster time goes.”  I didn’t understand it … until now. 🙂  Wendy Pope wrote a very timely devotion today for Proverbs 31 Ministries.  It is titled “Too Tired To Pray” and it sure seems appropriate for the end of the week, after the end of December, after the end of fast paced holidays!  Parties, food, presents, wrapping, more commitments, kids out of school … it all adds up to TIRED!  “Then I prayed to the God of heaven…” Nehemiah 2:4b (NIV).  This devotional blessed me today and I hope it will do the same for you!  Happy Friday!

Our sugar bowl is off limits to me!  I have been threatened with bodily harm (well, maybe not harm… I’m just saying) should I create any tantalizing, sweet, gooey, and utterly irresistible anything in the kitchen!!!  My two culinary consultants are 150% on the “new year’s lets lose weight” kick!  So I am going to have to bake vicariously through some of my favorite foodies until I am allowed back in the sugar bowl.  In the meantime, The Brown Eyed Baker whipped up these awesome looking Oatmeal Carmelita Bars! Can’t you just taste the sweet gooey caramel …. oh, I just have to quit right here.  I want one!  Lucky for me I

can still make a batch of these baked cheese stick bites without touching the sugar bowl.  And then I can roll right into the roasted fingerlings.

If you haven’t ever splurged and bought a bag of these little beauties (5 lbs. for $5+) I think they are worth it.  We roasted these and ate them alongside some fresh asparagus and green beans and the flavors were perfect together!  Next week I will put them in potato gratin for you!  Let’s see, still no sugar bowl because we also ate spinach salad this week–Yup, I did a great job staying away from the sugar bowl!  Except for this one itsy, bitsy, teeny little dessert…. Warm Chocolate Pudding Cake.  It is worth every warm, gooey, fudgey bite!  Thank you Robyn for sharing this recipe with us.  Bon Appetite’!

Many Blessings and Happy Cooking!
