Good morning! I hadn’t planned to post a recipe today while I prepare for my Tuesdays With Dorie post for tomorrow. Then I realized that anyone who is walking through the Bible with me this year will need the daily readings for this week. I am so looking forward to reading through Judges and then finishing this week with one of my favorite books of the Bible — Ruth. I am encouraged every time I read through Ruth. Although Naomi is the central character of the book, Ruth is actually the main character. I think Ruth and I would have been friends had we met on this side of Heaven. I admire Naomi for being a kind mother-in-law and thoughtful towards her daughters-in-law who had both lost their husbands. Naomi had every reason to be bitter and think only of herself, after all she had lost her two sons. But in the wake of her grief she was kind to her son’s wives. Ruth on the other hand, could have left Naomi and returned home, but her faithfulness and love wouldn’t allow that. The Book of Ruth is a rather short book, in both Jewish and Christian scripture, consisting of only four chapters. The full title in Hebrew is named after a young woman of Moab, the great-grandmother of David and, according to the Christian tradition, an ancestress of Jesus – Ruth.
My favorite verses in Ruth comes from Chapter 1:16 -18
But Ruth replied, “Don’t urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. 17 Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the LORD deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.” 18 When Naomi realized that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped urging her.
