New Year Fireplace Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV

Happy New Year!  I just love new beginnings and the new year is no exception. It seems that near the end of the year everything from church sermons to television programming centers on the past. Looking back, reflecting, in some cases grieving the lost time and in other cases thankful the year is nearly over!

This year is no different.  The Christmas tree is carefully stored away for another time.  The memories my ornament collection brings are fading into another year of life under the sun.  The house is clean and devoid of all signs of Santa, anything red or green, sparkles and tinsel. It feels good. A little sterile, but good.

As the year ends I find myself in that in-between place.  The space between the excitement and adventures of Christmas and the clean-up and start of the new year.  The space between “what did I accomplish this past year” and “what does next year hold for me.”

This fall my husband gave me a beautiful new nativity scene.  I just couldn’t put it away yet and so it is gracing my fireplace for the time being.  When my eye catches it I am comforted and reminded when Jesus was born it was just the beginning of the story.  And now I am living in-between the celebration of that baby’s birth and the celebration of His resurrection at Easter.

This seems like the perfect beginning to the new year.  It is my prayer you will also find your place in this perfect beginning.

Wishing you a happy and blessed new year!
Catherine
