Year-end scripture:  Philippians 4:6-7

“Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.”

Scripture Taken from The Message

Love Has A Name, Jesus

Love Has A Name Jesus

Yesterday my friend and neighbor, Gaye, gave us this Christmas card.  Inside she wrote, “This was David’s favorite card last year so he ordered several (8!) boxes after Christmas.  I think he knew I would need the reminder.”

She went on to explain that this is the same design of the card we gave them last year.  She said, “We both were so encouraged by the hope this card exudes.”

Love has a name – JESUS.

Love has a place – our hearts.

Love has a story.  And it’s not finished yet.

No matter how you spend Christmas, celebrating with family, eating holiday foods and treats, or just watching TV and eating pizza, please know this:  Jesus came to earth for one reason and one reason onlyfor you and me!  He came and walked on this earth, experienced life under the sun so that he could take our sin away, and return to the Father in Heaven.  He did this so that sin will not separate you and me from our Creator and Heavenly Father.  So that you and I can have eternal life.

Whatever you are feeling at this moment, fatigue, frustration over a family feud, sadness that today isn’t a “picture perfect Christmas”, my prayer is that you can put all those feelings away and tuck this truth in your heart.  “And it’s not finished yet.”  This isn’t as good as it gets.

Jesus and love are synonymous. When you tuck that nugget of truth in your heart He will take up residence, live within you and in your life.

Love has a name, JESUS. Love has a place. Our hearts. Love has a story. And it’s not finished yet.

After a 4 1/2 year battle with pancreatic cancer, Gaye’s husband David went to be with His Creator and Lord this year.  But it is just like David to still be leading the rest of us towards eternal life.

Take a deep breath, smile, make room for Jesus in your heart, and say a prayer of thanksgiving to our God.

Merry Christmas!
Love and Blessings, Catherine

My Nephew’s Family-Favorite Pepperoni Bread

Homemade Pepperoni Bread
Homemade Pepperoni Bread

After a full-on Thanksgiving week of turkey, baked sliced ham, dressing, mashed potatoes, and a zillion side dishes I am usually “over-it.” Toss in a couple of holiday parties featuring turkey or ham and when Christmas dinner rolls around I am designing a menu based on pasta sauce or even meatloaf!

I don’t think it is all that unusual for families to choose lasagna or spaghetti and meatballs for their holiday get-togethers.  For our family, a pasta meal means one more thing … pepperoni bread!

Family, Friends, & Heritage Food: Pecan Puffs, Peanut Clusters, Fudge, Scotch-a-roos

Crystal BSN web-15Last week I was given the gift of spending time with my niece Crystal and her family.  After 6 years of classes, while raising three children and still working part of that time, Crystal realized a life-long dream of becoming a registered nurse.  We attended her graduation and then the pinning ceremony later that day.  Soon she will take her NCLEX (National Council Licensing exam) and will officially become a RN-BSN.

My sous-chef dish-washing mom participated in the pinning of her grand-daughter along with Crystal’s husband, Kevin, and her best friend and nurse-mate, Alicia.  This was an especially sweet moment for mom as she reflected on her own pinning, becoming a Registered Nurse some 63 years ago.

Family Forever For Always Plaque
At every turn throughout this weekend, I’m reminded of the importance of family and family history.  Crystal treasures her family heritage and includes that heritage in all aspects of her life. From decorating her home with family memorabilia to the recipes she uses in preparing food and treats for the weekend.

When we arrived her kitchen table was covered with “treats”. Crystal explained that she wanted to honor the “grandma’s in her life” by using their recipes for the weekend festivities.  I was so touched and intrigued that I want to share those recipes with you. But wait there’s more! Click to continue reading
