A trip to the garden is really refreshing and can easily turn a bad day into a good one just by looking at all the green leaves and colorful flowers.
What’s nice about personal gardens is that you can also plant vegetables and herbs alongside your flowering plants. This way you’ll have a good supply of produce whenever you need or want it!
Another good thing about gardening especially vegetable and herb gardening is that you know that your plants are safe from harmful pesticides or fertilizer.
A quick look in our backyard garden gave me a delicious idea of making a delicious basil and tomato grilled cheese sandwich.
Why? Because, as I looked around, I noticed that my basil are all healthy and bountiful! The look of the basil plants made me hungry which lead me to think of why not upgrade a simple grilled cheese into an extra delicious one!
After checking the ingredients in my refrigerator, confirmed what to cook with the basil. I have bread, a tomato, margarine, and mozzarella! This will make for a perfect tomato and basil grilled cheese!
I’m sure you’re now hungry, so let’s not waste time and start grilling or should I say melting?
Basil and Tomato Grilled Cheese Ingredients:
- Loaf Bread
- Mozzarella
- Fresh Tomato
- Fresh Basil
- 2 pcs garlic
- 3 tbsp oil
- Salt
- Pepper
- Chili flakes
- Butter or Margarine
How to make Basil and Tomato Grilled Cheese
Grab about 4 to 5 big basil leaves and wash them clean. Now stack each piece together, roll and slice thinly. This process is called chiffonade, a method of rolling and slicing that is perfect for leafy herbs to avoid crushing them down. Place in a bowl.
Mince some garlic and transfer to the bowl where the basil is placed. Then add the oil. Season the mixture with chili flakes, salt and pepper. This will be our oil flavoring that will take our Grilled Cheese experience to another level. Set aside.
Meanwhile, slice 1-inch thick loaf bread and set aside.
Slice the tomatoes and mozzarella.
Time to assemble our Basil and Tomato Grilled Cheese! Start by placing a piece of loaf bread on a plate. Spread a good amount of our basil oil mixture. Top with sliced tomatoes and slices of mozzarella. Drizzle with more basil oil and cover with another slice of bread.
On a pan, melt about 2 tablespoons of margarine. Make sure that your fire is on the lowest setting because we want to toast the bread as well as melt the cheese. Place the prepared sandwich and cover until it is golden brown. Flip and cook the other side. Once the cheese is melted, you can finally enjoy biting on the hot Basil and Tomato Grilled Cheese!
Transfer on a serving plate and enjoy your next level Grilled Cheese while it is still hot. But be careful and not burn your tongue! If you have some tomato soup in the house, then you can enjoy this hot sandwich dipped in cold tomato soup.
