What better way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo than to cook a Mexican dish? We had an idea of what you should cook to commemorate their winning battle against France many years ago.

It’s actually my go-to recipe whenever I’m hungry for good food but not in the mood to exert much effort.

How To Make a GROUND PORK QUESADILLA

The recipe that I will be sharing uses one of the most popular ingredients and considered a staple item in the Mexican kitchen. It is none other than a tortilla!

Now that you know one of our main ingredients, then I’m guessing that you already have an idea on what food we’re going to prepare for Cinco de Mayo!

Quesadilla! Yep, you got it right! They’re delicious, easy to make and can be personalized with whatever ingredient you desire!

But before anything else, let’s have a brief history lesson for those who are not familiar with this delicious dish. Did you know that Quesadilla came to light by the time the Spaniards arrived in Mexico?

It’s because they’re the ones who introduced dairy to the country back in the 1500s. Thanks to them, Mexicans started creating wonderful cheesy dishes using queso and tortilla including quesadilla!

The basic form of quesadilla is just a grilled tortilla with melted cheese. If you think about it, it’s similar to grilled cheese, but instead of bread, Mexicans used the flat and thin tortilla.

Through the years, many ingredients were added to the quesadilla, even leftovers! That’s why it’s one of the most loved snacks by the many because of its versatility and easy way to prepare.

Tips on making a quesadilla

A homemade tortilla is advisable since you can adjust its texture, flavor and the ingredients that you will use to make one. You can use corn flour or a plain flour depending on your liking. Plus, it’s cheap and you probably have all the ingredients in your pantry!

Upgrade your cheese game by using different kinds that melt beautifully. Combine a strong and neutral cheese to enjoy a well-balanced flavor.

Don’t rush and learn to wait by using the lowest or moderate heat of your stove. This way, the cheese will melt until it’s stringy and the tortilla sill crisp. High heat can burn the tortilla even if the cheese is not yet melted.

Dice up your ingredients or fillings because a quesadilla is a snack that is meant to enjoy using your bare hands. Big chunks of fillings will just fall out which is really sad.
