Let’s face it, desserts are awesome! Like most, I have a pretty undeniable sweet tooth. Candies, cakes, and ice cream are my favorite. That being said, when I found out about 12 Oaks Desserts in Los Angeles, CA. I knew I had to give them a try!

First, let me start by saying that once we got connected, they offered to send me the cake pops mentioned below for free for an honest review. I did ask for a discount code through the end of the month for PrayCookBlog readers. That information can be found at the bottom of the post.

What is 12 Oaks Desserts?

Before jumping into the review, let me tell you a quick summary of the 12 Oaks Desserts company. It is a small female-owned dessert-making business started by Katherine in 2010 in NYC.  It now resides in LA.

They use family heirloom recipes to combine history with beautifully decorated masterpieces. “Great desserts make life a bit sweeter” is their simple business philosophy, and I think we all can get behind that.

On to the cake pops review!

When we first started talking they asked me what I wanted to try. I let me sweet tooth answer and immediately replied, “EVERYTHING”! Afterward, my more practical side kicked in, and I simply asked for something that a lot of people purchase and is somewhat easy to ship.

A few days later, I received their beautifully wrapped and amazing Ice Cream Cake Pops!

Please note, that I removed some of the pink packing material to take this picture.

My first thoughts when receiving and opening the package was how elegantly everything was packaged. You could immediately tell that they took pride in how their products appeared to the person opening the mail.

I know what someone out there may think, “But wait! It’s the hottest part of August, surely they would be ruined by cross country shipping,” Nope, they actually slipped in an ice pack that was still cold when delivered.

The Ice Cream Cake Pops I received were The Scarlet which is Red Velvet and Cookies and Cream which are my personal favorites. Let’s start with The Scarlet:

scarlet 2

scarlet 3

Now the Cookies and Cream:

What I liked

  • Packaging: Their packaging is spot on.
  • Taste: Both the cookies and cream and the red velvet were delicious and way above average for what you may expect in a product that was mailed. The “cherry on top” tasted like a red Skittle which is my second favorite candy behind Twizzlers. The frosting added a necessary crunch to the cake pop that made it more enjoyable.
  • Display: Each Ice Cream Cake Pop was individually wrapped and perfectly decorated. I appreciated that each cake pop was presented in a mini ice cream cone to amplify the ice cream theme. I also liked how they went the extra mile in individually wrapping them by adding a bow to each one.

What I didn’t like

Honestly, I really liked them, but if I was forced to nitpick, I would have liked some type of filling in the cone under the cake pop, only to make eating the bottom half more enjoyable.

Who is this perfect for?

multiple desserts to buy

12 Oaks Desserts makes a wide variety of products including cake pops, cake bites, full cakes, cheesecakes, cupcakes, etc. That being said, almost anyone can benefit from their services. I’d say that if you want a beautiful dessert for any event then starting with 12 Oaks Desserts is a must. I could see the cake pops and cake bites being perfect gifts for your loved ones, friends, teachers, event speakers, etc. As a matter of fact, Pastor Appreciation Month is coming up in October and this would be a great gift for them.
